How do I install the feeder?1. Thoroughly clean both sides of the window and let dry. 2. Insert the suction cups into the holes on the back of the feeder. Slide them up to lock into place. 3. Slightly moisten the suction cups with water. One drop per suction cup will suffice. Spread the water evenly on each suction cup. 4. Position the feeder evenly on the window. Press firmly on the back of the suction cups for at least 10 seconds to ensure the feeder is secure. 5. Affix the brown perch onto either long-sided edge of the seed tray. 6. Fill the seed tray with up to 3.5 cups of bird seed. The divider enables two kinds of seeds if desired. 7. Slide the tray into the feeder until it's locked into place by the four pegs in the corners. 8. Let the feeder do the hard work of attracting birds! Be patient for birds to discover the feeder, and then enjoy!

How often should I clean the feeder? The seed tray should be cleaned periodically, while the main housing can be cleaned as needed. We recommend cleaning the seed tray between every few refills, and more regularly during periods of warmer weather. We also advise replacing the seeds after extended heavy rain. Note: The tray should be emptied of any leftover shells and other debris between each refill. We also recommend cleaning the suction cups every so often. Dirt and grime will naturally accumulate on the suction cups over time, which will cause them to look clouded. The suction cups can be cleaned by soaking them in a cup of warm water with a few drops of dish soap. Soak the suction cups for 5 - 15 minutes, depending on how grimy they are. Then, gently wash the suction cups with a damp wash cloth or soft sponge. Rinse, and you're done! Friendly reminder: Slightly wet the suction cups with a tiny bit of water before re-attaching them to your window. Be sure to thoroughly clean the window beforehand as well! This will ensure that the suction cups stay firmly attached to your window.

What's the best way to clean the feeder? To clean the seed tray, slightly lift and slide it out of the feeder. Empty the tray and remove any debris with a soft cloth. Soak the tray in clean water (room temperature) for 10 minutes, and then clean by hand or with a soft cloth (do NOT use hard brushes). If heavily soiled, then soak in a 1:10 bleach:water solution. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a clean cloth. To clean the main feeder, shift up the feeder and gently tilt to remove it from the suction cups. No need to remove the suction cups from the window. Follow the same cleaning method as above.

Squirrels have overtaken feeder! What should I do?Although squirrels are cute, they can be quite destructive. Here are a few tips to help deter squirrels: Keep the feeder high on the window and away from anything that can be climbed. The window should be away from trees, fences, poles, ledges, etc. Some squirrels are very determined and will even climb the window screen, so keep the feeder high above the mesh area as well! Apply a pepper-based repellent in the area around the feeder. Pepper is a natural squirrel deterrent, but birds don’t notice it. You can even add 1 tsp of cayenne pepper to every 1 cup of bird food. Don’t worry, the birds won’t be able to taste it! This tip may sound crazy, but feed the squirrels! Try feeding the squirrels far away from your window bird feeder. They love nuts, fruits, and vegetables, and are more likely to stay away from the birdfeeder if there’s better food elsewhere.

I'm not seeing any birds. How should I attract them?Depending on your yard or garden, it can take days or even weeks for birds to find and feel accustomed to a new birdfeeder. Here are some tips to attract birds: Fill the feeder with the most popular types of birdseed. Birds love black oil sunflower seeds, sunflower hearts, and Nyjer seed. Once the birds start frequenting the feeder, gradually add your desired seed until the mix has been completely switched to what you want to offer. Spread some seed on top of the feeder or on the ground/ledge near the feeder. This will help draw more attention to the location, which will lead birds to discovering the feeder. Position the feeder relatively close to some safe havens and hideaways. Birds like to feel safe, and will often sit in shrubbery/trees. Keep the feeder a few feet (be mindful of those squirrels!) away from potential safety covers, so that birds can fly out for a quick visit to the feeder. If you still don’t see any birds after following these tips, start keeping track of seed levels. Birds may be visiting the feeder when you’re not looking!

What type of tree should I hang the swing from?Pick a strong and healthy hardwood, such as beech, oak, or maple. Avoid fruit trees and evergreens. The tree should also be free of rot, fungus, cracks, and hollows. Tip: Check and remove any broken limbs that may be overhead.
-
How do I choose the right branch? The tree branch should have a diameter of at least 8" and be mostly horizontal. To ensure the rider will swing to a safe height, the branch should also be no more than 20' from the ground. Be sure to check the branch for cracks and any signs of weak attachment with the trunk. Tip: Inspect the landing zone as well! The landing zone should be leveled ground and free of any hazards.
-
How do I install the swing?Assess the height and determine what type of hardware is needed. 1. Please note that the ropes (included) can be adjusted between approximately 4' - 7'. 2. Consider the height of the rider and estimate how high the swing should hang above the ground. IMPORTANT: The branch should not be more than 20' from the ground. 3. Determine if any additional length is needed and acquire the appropriate tree straps (NOT included). If no additional length is needed, we still recommend acquiring short tree straps to protect the branch. Tree straps can be found online (e.g. Amazon) or at your local home improvement store (e.g. Lowe's). 4. If no tree straps are desired, an alternative is eye bolts (NOT included). We recommend 1/2" or larger eye bolts that are corrosion-resistant. The eye bolts should also be long enough to protrude through the top of the branch and fit a washer and nut. Eye bolts can be found online (e.g. Amazon) or at your local home improvement store (e.g. Lowe's). INSTALLING WITH TREE STRAPS: Your tree straps likely include instructions. If not, please follow the instructions below: 1. Loop one strap around the branch and keep wrapping until it's at the desired length. 2. Thread one D ring through the other. 3. Pull and adjust the strap until it's wrapped snugly around the branch. 4. Repeat with the other strap. The distance between the two straps should be a bit wider than the length of the swing to prevent the swing from twirling easily. 5. Clip the carabiners onto the hanging D rings. Screw to lock the carabiners. 6. Adjust the length of the ropes by pulling them accordingly through the S hooks. INSTALLING WITH EYE BOLTS: Your eye bolts likely include instructions. If not, please follow the instructions below: 1. Carefully drill a vertical hole all the way through the center of the branch and insert the eye bolt. 2. Use a washer and nut to secure it to the tree. 3. Repeat for the other side. 4. Clip the carabiners onto the eye bolts. Screw to lock the carabiners. 5. Adjust the length of the ropes by pulling them accordingly through the S hooks. Note: The branch will eventually grow around the eyebolts, making this a permanent installation.

Is the swing already sealed?Yes, the swing is already pre-painted with a nitrocellulose paint and pre-sealed with a vegetable oil top coat. Please note that the swing does periodically need to be touched up though. Please see the instructions in the next Q&A.
-
Does the swing need to be re-sealed?Please note that your swing has been pre-painted and pre-sealed, but does periodically need to be touched up. Apply a waterproof sealant every 6 - 12 months, depending on your climate. Swings exposed to harsher climates should be re-sealed closer to 6 months, while more temperate climates can be closer to 12 months.
-
Do I need to clean the swing? As dirt and grime will naturally accumulate on the swing over time, we do suggest cleaning the swing as needed. The swing should definitely be cleaned before applying a waterproof sealant (see above Q&A). Clean the swing with mild soap and a soft brush or sponge. Rinse with water and be sure to let it dry before re-sealing. Take this opportunity to clean the ropes as well! Lay the ropes (along with the swing) on your deck/porch/driveway and gently scrub with mild soap or mild detergent. Rinse with water and hang to dry.
-
Should I store the swing indoors? To preserve the longetivity of the swing, please store the swing indoors over winter. We also recommend bringing it indoors during extended periods of rain.
